Living without running water and electricity is not easy but it’s also not horrible. I haul water from a couple of different places in my SUV, and then around my place in a bucket. I need to water plants, and myself and the dogs. I use a laundromat for my clothes, just to wash, and hang them out to dry. I have a solar shower set up that is pretty lame but it works. For the toilet, I pee on the plants, and poop while at work or at the public restroom at a nearby park.
The only electric things I have are my phone and my Kindle. Oh, and a speaker. I can charge everything at work four days a week, and I use my car charger the days I’m off.
I have a few hundred dollars a week extra now and I have a million things I need. It’s hard to figure out what to do first. Buy lumber to do the inside walls? Buy siding for the outside? Save up to hire someone to build a bathroom? I need a lawnmower or a weed whacker or both. Save for solar set up? I have one panel but it’s not hooked up yet.
Now that I’m living here, the only rush is for convenience. I’d say I want a kitchen but cooking for a living is a lot of cooking and when I am home, I really don’t have the urge to cook, at all. I still have absolutely no appetite, none.
But I am loving living here. I soak in the ocean three times a week. The girls love it here. The gardening is so fun. Who needs running water and electricity?
